Life in First Grade

First grade has had a busy month during September. We learned about Johnny Appleseed. Did you know that his real name was John Chapman and he was a missionary? Mrs. Richardson read us a story about him. We watched a video about his life. Did you know he wore a pot on his head and traveled west helping farmers and planting apple seeds? We are reading and learning about different types of animals and what we can do to help take care of them. Our August top AR reader was Caleb. Choosing our top AR reader in September is a tight race! Brandon, Caleb, and Emily S.  are neck and neck. This has become quite the competition. I think it’s going to come down to the last day. We will update you soon. Almost all of the other students have met their goal of six books. I love that they are all excited about reading. Please encourage you children to continue to read. Thanks to the parents who ordered books this month because of you, our class was able to receive $10 in free books and each child will receive a free book.

We really enjoyed homecoming week. Our class won the prize for the most participation for lower elementary. It was great that every one dressed up every day. We are looking forward to October. We can’t wait to see the play, “The True Story of the Three Little Pigs”.  Our trip to the Pumpkin Patch later in October has us all excited, and we can’t wait for Fall Break to get here!
